Add an electronic signature to a PDF and get others to sign

An electronic signature is any electronic mark a person uses to agree to a document, such as a typed name or a signature drawn with a finger. In Klevo you can add your own to a PDF, or send one link so up to ten people sign from any browser with no app and no account. Klevo then adds a certificate page recording who signed and when.

How to e-sign a document

  1. Open or create the document. Open a PDF in the Klevo app or at app.klevo.info, or create one from a contract template.
  2. Choose who signs. Choose Sign to add your own signature, or Request signatures and set how many people need to sign.
  3. Share the link. Send it by text, email or chat. Each signer enters their name, draws or types a signature and accepts the electronic-signature consent.
  4. Get the signed copy. When everyone has signed, the PDF with its certificate page lands in your library, ready to download or forward.

Electronic signature or digital signature?

People use these words interchangeably, but they are different things.

  • Electronic signature: the broad legal term. A typed name, a drawn signature or a click on “I agree” can all qualify. This is what Klevo provides.
  • Digital signature: a cryptographic technique that uses a certificate from a trusted provider to seal a file. Klevo does not add this kind of signature.
  • Qualified electronic signature (EU): the highest eIDAS level, which needs identity checks by an approved provider. Klevo does not offer it.

What Klevo records

  • Each signer’s name
  • The signing time
  • The IP address and device
  • A SHA-256 hash of the document
  • A signer who declines can give a reason

Is an electronic signature legally valid?

In many places, including under the US ESIGN Act and the EU eIDAS Regulation, electronic signatures are legally recognized for most everyday agreements. Some documents, such as wills or certain property deeds, have extra requirements. Klevo appends a certificate page recording each signer’s name, the time, IP address and device.

Klevo’s templates and AI drafts are a starting point, not legal advice. For anything high-stakes, have a qualified professional review the final document.

When to use something else

Use a dedicated signing service if you need qualified or certificate-based signatures, identity verification, notarization, signature fields at exact positions or an enterprise audit trail. Check the requirements first for wills, deeds, court papers and government filings.

Frequently asked questions

How do I create an electronic signature for free?

Draw your signature with a finger or mouse, or type your name in a handwriting-style font. In Klevo your first signature uses your one free edit. iPhone users can also use the free Markup tool, covered in the iPhone guide.

Do signers pay or need an account?

No. They open the link in any browser and sign. No app, account or payment is needed.

Does it cost anything to request signatures?

No. Sending a signature request costs nothing. Adding your own signature uses your one free edit, and after that needs Pro.

How many people can sign one document?

Up to ten on one link. Each signer is listed separately on the certificate page.

Is a typed name a real signature?

It can be. Under laws such as the US ESIGN Act, what matters is the intent to sign and a record of it, not how the mark looks. Some documents have stricter rules.
