How to sign a PDF on iPhone

You can sign a PDF on an iPhone for free: open the document, add your signature and save the result as a new PDF. If the signature has to come from someone else, Klevo sends them a link they open in any browser, with no app and no account.

Step by step

  1. Open the PDF. In Files or Mail, tap the document. In the Klevo app, open it from your library.
  2. Add your signature. Files: tap the pencil (Markup), then the signature button and sign with a finger. Klevo: choose Sign and draw or type your name.
  3. Place it. Drag the signature where it belongs and resize it.
  4. Save a copy. In Files, tap Done and share the edited PDF. In Klevo, the signed copy is saved to your library.
  5. Or ask someone else to sign. Choose Request signatures in Klevo, add their email or share the link, and they sign in any browser.

Signing it yourself with Markup

iOS has a signature tool inside Markup, which opens from Files, Mail and Photos. Tap the pencil, then the signature button, sign on the screen with a finger, and drag the result onto the page. You can add a saved signature again on later documents.

Markup is an annotation layer: the signature sits on top of the page as an image, there is no signing field, no record of who signed or when, and only you can sign. That is enough for a form you have to initial, and not enough when someone else has to sign.

Getting a signature from someone else

In Klevo, open the PDF and choose Request signatures. Share the link by text, email or chat. Each signer opens it in Safari, Chrome or any other browser, enters their name, draws or types a signature and accepts the electronic-signature consent — no app, no account, no printing.

When everyone has signed, Klevo adds a certificate page recording each signer’s name, the time, the IP address, the device and a SHA-256 hash of the document. The signed PDF lands in your library. A signer can also decline and give a reason. One link takes up to ten signers.

Is an iPhone signature legally valid?

In many places, including under the US ESIGN Act and the EU eIDAS Regulation, electronic signatures are legally recognized for most everyday agreements. Some documents, such as wills or certain property deeds, have extra requirements. Klevo appends a certificate page recording each signer’s name, the time, IP address and device. A signature drawn with a finger counts as a simple electronic signature, which is the level most everyday documents need.

When another app fits better

If you need signature fields placed at exact coordinates, notarisation, or an enterprise audit trail, use a dedicated signing service. For everything else — an invoice, a consent form, a lease, a freelance contract — typing, signing and sharing from the phone is faster than printing.

Frequently asked questions

Can I sign a PDF on iPhone for free?

Yes. Markup in the Files app is free and built in, and Klevo includes free signing and free AI edits every day.

Does the person signing need an iPhone?

No. They open the Klevo link in any browser on any device, sign with a finger or mouse, and do not need the app or an account.

Can several people sign one document?

Yes. A Klevo link can take up to ten signers, and each signature is recorded separately on the certificate page.

Can I sign a scanned PDF?

Yes. Klevo places the signature on the page. Scanned pages are images, so the text inside them still cannot be edited.

Where does the signed copy go?

It is saved to your Klevo library and can be downloaded or shared as a PDF. Klevo is free to download and includes free AI edits every day. Pro removes the daily limit: in the phone app through the App Store or Google Play, or on the web for $7.99 a month or $29.99 a year.
